MURDER OF PAKISTANI MINISTER
VATICAN CITY, 2 MAR 2011 (VIS). Here is the statement made this morning by Father Federico Lombardi, SJ, Director of the Hall-of-the Holy See Press: "The assassination of Mr. Shabbaz Bhatti, Pakistani Minister for Minorities, and extremely serious . This act of violence proves the correctness of the successive interventions of the Holy Father to denounce violence perpetrated against Christians and more broadly against religious freedom. The victim, who was the first Catholic to occupy such a position had been received by the Pope last September and had expressed its commitment to peaceful coexistence between religious communities in his country. A prayer of suffrage Mr Bhatti, the condemnation of unspeakable violence, solidarity against Pakistani Christians affected by hatred, coupled with a call to a general awareness of what is an urgent need to defend religious freedom as persecuted Christians.
